Description
Functional Skills Qualification in English at Level 1 and 2 are for learners to develop understanding and skills in English. The qualifications give learners the opportunity to gain a qualification for work, study and life, demonstrate the ability at an appropriate level to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English, and apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in other real life situations. Tailor your learning journey by attending a pre-course interview to assess your current proficiency and select the starting level that best suits your needs.

What you will learn
Level 2 is the highest Functional Skills English qualification and is recognised as equivalent to a GCSE Grade 4 (C). It helps you become a confident communicator, ready for work, study or career progression. You’ll learn to: Understand and analyse detailed texts from different sources, Compare how writers use language and structure to influence the reader, I identify bias, tone, fact vs opinion, and persuasive techniques, Write for different purposes and audiences (e.g. reports, reviews, complaints), Use accurate grammar, punctuation and spelling, Structure ideas clearly and use language to inform, persuade or argue, Take part in formal and informal discussions, Give presentations with confidence and clarity, Respond effectively to questions and feedback. This level shows you're ready to communicate professionally and handle complex written or spoken information useful for jobs, apprenticeships, or further education.
How you will learn
You will gain knowledge via presentations, demonstrations, group discussions, question and answer sessions and practical exercises.
What will you need to bring
We will provide handouts and resources for your course. You will need to have pen and paper for additional notes.
How you will be assessed
Reading and writing tests are externally marked by the Awarding Body, with the speaking and listening being internally assessed and externally moderated by the Awarding Body.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
