Step into the world of timeless artistry with our immersive oil painting course. For centuries, oil-based paints have been the preferred medium of fine artists, renowned for their ability to create rich tones and vibrant colours. This transformative journey is where you'll learn essential techniques in our exploration classes, mastering the fundamentals of oil painting. Throughout the course, you will hone your skills and creativity, culminating in a final project where you will apply everything you have learned to create a masterpiece of your own.
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who is interested in learning how paint using oils.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course; however, you will need to be able to read and write in English at Entry Level 3 to get the most out of your learning.
What you will learn
You will gain practical skills in safely managing and organizing materials, including solvents, within a studio setting; priming a basic painting surface; and laying out a palette effectively. The course will also cover key painting concepts such as understanding light and shade through tonal contrast, achieving color vibrancy and subtlety through mixing and blending, and applying techniques like scumbling, drybrush, wet-in-wet, and glazing. Learners will complete an oil painting in stages, following a process that progresses from lean to rich application.

You will learn via presentations, practical activities, workbooks, group and paired activities and group discussions.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
