This course is for anyone who wants to learn how to sign using British Sign Language.

Please attend a pre-course interview so that we can identify which course would be the most appropriate starting level for you.
What you will learn
"Achieving this qualification means that learners will be able to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of themes that involve simple, everyday language use. They will gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of BSL. At the end of the qualification, learners will be able to understand and use a limited range of simple words and sentences in BSL, take part in simple, everyday conversations in BSL, give and follow simple directions or instructions in BSL and give and follow simple familiar statements or descriptions in BSL.
Throughout this course, you will:

How you will learn
Learners will gain knowledge via presentations, demonstrations, group discussions, question and answer sessions and practical exercises.

A notepad and a pen.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed via practical activities, workbooks, group and pair activities and presentations.
Where next?
You can progress onto British Sign Language Level 2.
What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
