Description
Build on your beginner sewing skills and take your crafting to the next level with this intermediate course. You'll perfect your pattern-making, measuring, and cutting techniques, and learn essential finishing touches like seam finishing, inserting zippers, and adding decorative elements such as applique and piping.
Throughout this course, you will:
- Practice accurately marking, measuring, and cutting out patterns.
- Learn seam finishing techniques for a professional look.
- Use a zipper foot to insert zippers with precision.
- Apply decorative finishes like applique, piping, and other trims.
- Master hand sewing techniques for a neat and polished finish.
Possible projects include a cushion cover, zipped pouch, tote bag, or your own personal project choice.
Who is this course for?
This course is for individuals who have had some experience with sewing.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this course; however, you will need to be able to read and write in English at Entry Level 3 to get the most out of your learning.
What you will learn
Building on the beginner level, you will practice accurately marking, measuring, and cutting out patterns. You will learn seam finishing techniques and how to use a zipper foot to insert a zip. Additionally, you will apply decorative finishes such as applique, piping, and other trims using the machine, along with hand sewing techniques to achieve a neat finish. Possible projects include a cushion cover, zipped pouch, tote bag, or a project of your own choosing.

You will learn via presentations, practical activities, workbooks, group and paired activities and group discussions.

A notepad and a pen.

You can be referred to other creative qualifications at the college, such as Floristry and Graphic Design.
What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
