Description
This qualification provides a basic knowledge of the adult social care sector. It covers the type
of job roles and services within it, the role of communication and the importance of valuing the
individuals being cared for.
All units within the qualification are mandatory and you will gain knowledge and understanding in the
following areas:
- introduction to the adult social care sector
- values and principles of adult social care
- skills and attitudes needed to work in adult social care
- communication
- roles and responsibilities in adult social care.
All the units within this qualification are vocationally based, directly helping you to develop a basic
knowledge of the adult social care sector and explore the type of job roles and services within it.
Who is this course for?
The NCFE CACHE Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care is designed for learners who:
- Are at least 19 years of age.
- Wish to explore roles within the adult social care sector.
- Are considering a career in health and/or social care or are returning to work after a career break.
This qualification is suitable for those seeking to gain foundational knowledge of adult social care before deciding if the sector is the right fit.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification however we would expect you to have English skills at level 1.
What you will learn
The course develops basic knowledge and understanding of:
1. The adult social care sector.
2. Key values and principles of social care, such as respect, dignity, and confidentiality.
3. Skills and attitudes essential for working in social care.
4. Effective communication and overcoming communication barriers.
5. The roles and responsibilities of an adult social care worker.
How you will learn
Learners will gain knowledge via presentations, demonstrations, group discussions, question and answer sessions and practical exercises.
What will you need to bring
Writing materials such as notebooks and pens for note-taking.
Access to basic technology like email and word processing tools for assignments.
Enthusiasm to engage in interactive learning and group activities.
How you will be assessed
Internal assessments using methods such as:
- Written tasks.
- Practical scenarios.
- Oral Q&A sessions.
The course is graded on an "Achieved" or "Not Yet Achieved" basis, ensuring clear feedback and development pathways.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
