There are no entry requirements for this course. It's open to anyone interested in exploring self-employment opportunities, regardless of background or experience.

What you will learn
Throughout this course, you will gain valuable insights into: Exploring self-employment opportunities within your chosen sector. Understanding the working patterns, skills, and behaviors needed to succeed as a self-employed individual. Managing income and expenditure, including how to keep accurate financial records. Planning effectively for self-employment, including strategies for financing, marketing, and resource management. Identifying and accessing sources of support, such as financial advice and business resources, to help launch your business.

How you will learn
The course will be delivered through a blend of interactive lessons, practical tasks, and real-world business scenarios. You will engage in discussions, complete exercises, and use resources such as the internet, financial advisors, and libraries to deepen your understanding of self-employment.

What will you need to bring
You will need a notebook, pen, and a willingness to explore new ideas. Any additional learning materials will be provided by the course. We expect you to fully engage with all activities, participate in discussions, and take ownership of your learning. How you will be assessed
Assessment will be through a portfolio of evidence that you will compile throughout the course. This portfolio will demonstrate how you meet the assessment criteria for each unit within the qualification. You will gather evidence from activities, written tasks, and practical exercises. Regular feedback from your tutor will guide you in completing your portfolio to the required standard. If successful, you will achieve a Level 1 Award in Preparing for Self-Employment.

Where next?
Upon completion, you will have a clear understanding of how to plan and manage a small business. You may choose to pursue further training in business development or sector-specific qualifications, or even take the next steps to launch your own business.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
