Key topics include: Exploring Self-Employment Opportunities: Learners will explore different products and services offered by self-employed individuals within their chosen sector, examining various working patterns, and identifying the essential skills and behaviors needed to succeed as a self-employed person.Understanding Income and Expenditure: The course covers income sources and expenditure types relevant to self-employment, along with the importance of accurate record-keeping for financial management.Planning for Self-Employment: Learners will develop the skills necessary to create effective business plans, considering key aspects like financing, marketing, and resources. The course also introduces learners to available support options, such as financial advice, loans, and resources to help launch their business.By the end of the course, learners will be equipped with the knowledge to effectively plan for and manage the challenges of self-employment, enhancing their chances of business success.

How you will be assessed
Assessment will be through a portfolio of evidence that you will compile throughout the course. This portfolio will demonstrate how you meet the assessment criteria for each unit within the qualification. You will gather evidence from activities, written tasks, and practical exercises. Regular feedback from your tutor will guide you in completing your portfolio to the required standard.
If successful, you will achieve a Level 1 Award in Preparing for Self-Employment.
Where next?
Upon completion, you will have a clear understanding of how to plan and manage a small business. You may choose to pursue further training in business development or sector-specific qualifications, or even take the next steps to launch your own business.
What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
