Description

ESOL courses are English language classes designed for people whose first language is not English. We support progression from Pre-Entry to Level 2. The courses are designed to help you cope with everyday life, such as helping you with your children, communicating with other people and services and helping you to get a job. You will practise English skills and develop your speaking and listening ability. Course fees and concessions are dependent on your location, immigration status and employment status. Please ask our Centre Support team for more information.  

Who is this course for?
Anyone who has completed all units ESOL Entry Level 3 or completed Level 1 unit for writing and/or reading. Any learner who has been evaluated at Level 1 by an ESOL teacher during a PCI session.

Entry Requirements
Before the course, you will be required to sit an initial assessment with an ESOL teacher to determine your current level to ensure the course you attend is the most suitable level for you. If you have previously passed any ESOL qualifications, please bring your certificate with you.

What you will learn
During the course you will practise English skills and develop your grammar and vocabulary including phrases in line with the ESOL Core Curriculum. You will learn how to hold group conversations with other people on various themes, give talks on specific topics and extensive descriptions clearly. You will practice listening skills on different subjects and gain confidence in speaking in front of a group. The course will also include elements of functional skills English, to help towards employment skills. By attending and successfully completing the course you may gain a recognised qualification that is valued in the UK.

How you will learn
Learners will gain knowledge by presentations, demonstrations, group discussions, question and answer sessions and practical activities. A variety of materials are used, including course books, worksheets, internet, video/audio and everyday materials, such as newspapers, etc. Homework will be given and expected to be done and self-study is encouraged.

What will you need to bring
Notebook, pen and a dictionary (English, bilingual or both)

How you will be assessed
During the course, you will be assessed by teacher observation, class and individual feedback, practical exercises as well as quizzes. There will be mock practice to guide you and help you with the live assignment. At the end of the course, there will be a live assignment in class under exam conditions.

Where next?
On completing this unit, you will be able to move onto the next units or the next level of study (Level 2) if you have passed all the units for Level 1. We offer vocational introductory courses, to help your progression onto mainstream courses. There are many options to choose from including Childcare, Teaching Assistant, Bookkeeping, Digital skills, English Functional skills and Maths. You can also enrol onto IT and Employability courses.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
