Description
ESOL courses are English language classes designed for people whose first language is not English. We support progression from Pre-Entry to Level 2. The courses are designed to help you cope with everyday life, such as helping you with your children, communicating with other people and services and helping you to get a job. You will practise English skills and develop your speaking and listening ability. Course fees and concessions are dependent on your location, immigration status and employment status. Who is this course for?
Anyone who has completed all units ESOL Entry Level 1 or completed Entry Level 2 unit for writing and/or speaking and listening. Any learner who has been evaluated at Entry Level 2 by an ESOL teacher during a PCI session.
Entry Requirements
Before the course, you will be required to sit an initial assessment with an ESOL teacher to determine your current level to ensure the course you attend is the most suitable level for you. If you have previously passed any ESOL qualifications, please bring your certificate with you.
What you will learn
During the course you will practise English skills and develop your grammar and vocabulary. You will be taught about different type of texts, where they can be found and their purpose. You will be able to identify correct information on forms and texts as well as layouts. Nouns phrases and past, present and future verb forms will be covered, as well as adjectives, adverbs and prepositional phrases in line with the ESOL Core Curriculum. The course will also include elements of functional skills English, to help towards employment skills.
By attending and successfully completing the course you may gain a recognised qualification that is valued in the UK.
How you will learn
Learners will gain knowledge by reading and exploring a wide range of texts, understand written information, participate in question and answer sessions and practical activities. A variety of materials are used, including course books, worksheets, internet, video/audio and everyday materials, such as newspapers, etc. Homework will be given and expected to be done and self-study is encouraged.

Notebook, pen and a dictionary (English, bilingual or both)
How you will be assessed
During the course, you will be assessed by teacher observation, class and individual feedback, practical exercises as well as quizzes. There will be mock practice to guide you and help you with the live assignment.
At the end of the course, there will be a live assignment in class under exam conditions.
Where next?
On passing this unit, you will be able to move onto the next units or the next level of study if you have passed all the units for Entry Level 2.
What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
