Description

Explore Functional Skills maths qualifications as a flexible alternative to traditional GCSEs, valued by employers for enhancing adult numeracy skills. This curriculum emphasises practical skills essential for both daily life and the workplace. Achieving Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE grades D-G/grades 3-1, paving the way towards advancing to Level 2. Tailor your learning journey by attending a pre-course interview to assess your current proficiency and select the starting level that best suits your needs.

Who is this course for?
A functional skills maths course is great for anyone who needs practical math skills for daily life and work. This includes adults wanting to handle their finances better, employees looking to improve their job skills, and job seekers needing a math qualification. It's also helpful for learners who find traditional math hard and prefer a more practical approach.

Entry Requirements
Please enrol onto a pre course interview so that we can identify the right starting level for you.

What you will learn
Once you have completed a pre course interview with your teacher, they will suggest the right starting level for you. Each level of learning builds on the skills from the level before. On a functional skills maths course, learners will cover essential mathematical topics such as basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), fractions, decimals, and percentages. They will also learn to apply math in real-life contexts, like budgeting, measuring, data handling, and solving practical problems. Additionally, the course includes understanding graphs, charts, and basic algebra to enhance problem-solving and decision-making skills.

How you will learn
Learners will gain knowledge via presentations, demonstrations, group discussions, question and answer sessions and practical exercises.

What will you need to bring
You will need to have pen and paper for notes.

How you will be assessed
You and your teacher will track your learning progress and set developmental targets. There will be practice exercises and informal assessments which enable to measure how well you are progressing. At the end of the course, you will sit a formal exam.
