Who is this course for?
Discover the art of creating beautiful sugar flowers for cake decoration. This practical three-week course will introduce you to the essential techniques for working with flower paste, including cutting, shaping, layering and colouring. You’ll start with simple flowers and gradually develop your skills, adding more detail and realistic features before bringing your flowers and foliage together into a finished floral cake decoration.

What you will learn
Week 1 - Sugar Flowers: Getting Started
Learn the basics of creating simple sugar flowers using cutters and modelling tools. Explore rolling, cutting, shaping and layering to create attractive flowers and leaves suitable for decorating cakes and cupcakes.
You’ll also learn simple techniques for adding colour and detail to your flowers.
The college will provide:
One 200g pack of white flower paste per learner. This will be used throughout the three-week course.

Week 2 - Sugar Flowers: Building Your Skills
Develop your flower-making techniques and create more detailed flowers using flower or modelling paste. Learn how to add shape, texture, colour and detail to create more realistic-looking petals and flowers.
You’ll also explore how different flowers and foliage can be combined to create a more balanced cake decoration.

Week 3 - Sugar Flowers: Creative Floral Designs
Bring your skills together to create a more detailed floral arrangement. Explore realistic petals, foliage, colour and composition, and learn how to combine your flowers to create a coordinated finished cake decoration.
You’ll plan your design and arrange your flowers and foliage to create a beautiful floral display suitable for a celebration cake.
No previous experience is needed.

How you will learn
You will gain knowledge via presentations, demonstrations, group discussions, question and answer sessions and practical exercises.

No additional resources are required.

How you will be assessed
Your tutor will provide valuable development feedback throughout the session.

What we expect from you
You are required to attend every session. The minimum required attendance for this course is 85%. Anything below this attendance will be reviewed by the Curriculum Development Manager and you may be withdrawn from the course and the outstanding course fees will still be payable.
